Great but less known side scroller beat'em ups
Recently I got my interest in side-scrolling beat'em ups back, but failed in finding good ones that I haven't played already (FF1, SoR, misc. Capcom & SNK Jewels), aside from
-Violent Storm (Konami), which has an odd cartoon theme but awesome music and really fast&fun gameplay. So are there any other good ones you could suggest? Edit: accidentally pushed enter while typing the subject line :| Last edited by Effeser; 7th November 2003 at 12:43 AM. |

If you have a Sega Saturn I'd recommend tracking down a copy of Guardian Heroes, which is a fantasy-themed beat-'em-up. It's difficult to find, but well worth the effort. I also have to mention River City Ransom on NES, one of the most under-appreciated games in the genre. The graphics are pretty dated now, but the gameplay is spot-on.

You gotta love the premise: Your team of Baseball Ninjas has been ordered by the Commisioner of New York (Steinbrenner) to retrieve the missing pieces of the Gold Statue of the Babe. It turns out though that he really wanted the completed statue in order to ressurect a Demon Babe he could control. I shit you not. This is based on a true story. |

Does Hagane on SNES count as side scroller? I do remember taking about three weeks to beat it because it was so hard. But it was so badass because of its jpn technofantasy setting.

Armored Warriors... how does a Capcom game manage to be more obscure than Cyberbots? Anyway, prettymuch everything that's already been said, especially Alien vs. Predator arcade. The Simpsons is fun too, if not the most "technical" beat 'em up (paradox ol). And Banpresto made a rather good Sailor Moon bmup.
Soul Blader: Sengoku Blade is Psikyo's side scrolling shooter (the other being Sengoku Ace, which is top down). The Neo-Geo beat 'em ups are just called Sengoku. |

Sonic Blastman is one of the most pathetic excuses for a 2D beat em up Ive ever played...
Appart from: 2 crude dudes (NES) Spiderman and venom seperation anxiety (SNES) Dragon ninja (NES) um... wait a minuite... it aint so bad....

I recomend X-Men the arcade game. 6-player action rocks the house, plus it has Nightcrawler.
If you want a really hard game go for Maximum Carnage(SNES). It took me forever to beat it.

Marvel super heroes on the SNES is good too (Not like the cool saturn one or the gay capcomvsmarvel (1+2)

So...whatever happened to Rent-A-Hero on X-Box? Does it suck so much that people don't talk about it, or did it get pushed back from release date?
( Yeah I know its 3d, but I just needed to ask. ) And Knights of the Round and Dungeons & Dragons pwn hard. It would be so awesome if there characters appeared on Sammy vs. Capcom.
