Eleet Speek FAQ version 1.0
Thank you for taking the time, or being spineless enough to be intimidated into reading the Eleet Speek FAQ. In this document we hope to propogate some knowledge, some advice and some simple do's and don'ts - all in the name of keeping a nice, cosy, happy forum running as smoothly as possible.

Eleet Speek is the official message forum of Higher Voltage - self-proclaimed greatest and longest-running fighting game fan site on the net. In the spirit of the site itself, the forum focuses on fighting games, comedy and the ultimate depths of shocking loserdom.

Once a community of single-digit membership, over the years the number of posters and amount of activity has skyrocketed, to the bustling e-metropolis we see before us today.

So what does Eleet Speek consist of, exactly?

Well it's broken up into three seperate forums, each with a slightly different goal, but all embracing our overall passions, re: fighting games and men.

"Rules" and "regulations"
When Higher Voltage first opened it's message board, we were all so very proud of the fact that we basically self-regulated. We didn't need any rules, because nobody would ever break them if we did. Of course as the board grew, this simply couldn't last. We still think of ourselves as generally permissive and open-minded, but we do still have the need to make a few statements for posters to adhere to.

Try to think of them less as cast-iron guidelines, and more friendly anal prods in the right direction.

Posting etiquette

This is fairly straightforward. People respond much better to others, and discussions are served so much better if you take into account the basic rules of the internet. Grammar and spelling are your friends; don't troll or spam; learn to trim quotes; don't abuse smileys and images, and try to be civil to people until you at least know them well enough to call them an idiot.

When it comes to starting new threads, try to make sure that an existing thread doesn't already exist before starting a new discussion on the same subject, in fact the search function in general is a very useful tool and is there for you to use. Also, please avoid posting 'Photoshop' style edited images ("0wned!" "You're a fag!" "Every time you masturbate...." etc.) - because they're absolutely bloody terrible.

Conflicts and grievances

Eleet Speek has a reputation for flaming prowess second only to Shaolin-Venoms.com - post here long enough and you will end up arguing with someone over something. Our general policy on such events is basically to weather the storm. Even the most hateful spats fizzle out eventually, and the admin collective don't tend to view such things as worthy of deletion or locking. One more thing, you must remember that there are people who HAVE been here longer than you, and they DO know more about some things than you do. This is not elitism, but simple fact. Also, try to remember that people do actually agree on things from time to time, and that such agreements are not automatic proof of message board cliques. There are no 'us guys' or hiveminds or factions or what have you.

Ignoring threads

This board has a (not entirely deserved) reputation for it's love of the perverse, and grotesque. Obviously not everybody shares that love, and so it's worth mentioning the entirely obvious but often missed maxim that if you don't like something, then you really shouldn't read it.

All potentially offensive threads will be well marked, and probably have an explanation/warning in the first post. Continue after these at your own risk, and remember, nobody is forcing you to read them. It's a lot quicker and easier for everyone involved if you just ignore them totally if you think it's something that will offend you.

Getting on the HerV hub
ACCESSING HIGHER VOLTAGE DIRECT CONNECT HUB: download DIRECT CONNECT from www.neomodus.com or DC++. Enter highervoltage.net:15000 in the address bar INSIDE OF DIRECT CONNECT. Shut the fuck up and DO NOT create a thread about it at Eleet Speek.

Board Questions, Answers and Obscufation
How do I get an avatar under my user name?

How do I get a signature at the end of my post?

How do I get that custom user text under my name?

How can I change my user name?

vBulletin doesn't allow users to change their name (things would get mighty confusing if it did) - but it is still possible. If you really, really want to change your name, send a Private Message to your admin of choice requesting the change, and it'll be done soon enough. If you do have your name changed, you may want to consider some sort of indication; in your user text or sig perhaps, saying that you used to be whoever, just so people know.

Can I post images/attachments?

What are Private Messages?
