I want to post a grateful comment to Sklabah for this review, but I'm still too busy rolling around on the floor with laughter at the sight of this image:

I've been wanting to see this game's introduction for the longest time now. There's something about seeing SNK characters in a 3D rendered CG sequence that gives me goosebumps, and Geese, no less... wonderful. I was once able to download the anime intro of Realbout Special off some site, I wonder if someone out there has the intro to Wild Ambition.

PS. May is in it, yes? Any screenshots plz? Boxy tits :spooge

Punch, you can download all three of the games' CG sequences from OROCHINAGI.COM (http://planetdreamcast.com/orochinagi/video/8.shtml) - you have to go through gay Fileplanet, but the public servers were empty, so there's no queueing or anything.

They're pretty good, though CG dates so fast these days it's untrue. Still Southtown has never looked better, and I want to live in Geese Tower. :D

Holy fuck that was amazing. And I think it has aged pretty good actually. What I saw was way better than the crap CG I saw in more recent titles (Headhunter I love you, but your CG is shit).

It was done with style and expertise. Too bad the game didn't live up to these. Thanks for the linkage Neil.

* picks jaw up *

You can expect my Fatal Fury movie Trilogy review real soon now. I've got FF in the brain :D

I ( and my ass) have a couple things to add:

The screen shots make the game look half-way decent, don't they? Don't be fooled!

I look forward to the FF movie reviews. I heard there was a fourth, but I don't know. Part two (with Krauser) ownz.

Forgot to mention the nice character art at the select and loading screens. Oh well, they can't save this pile...

Doesn't the CG of Geese practicing in front of Ripper and Hopper make your spine tingle? The CG has weight to it, and it looks like the dude hits...HARD!

Neil, you are awesome. Nice screen grabs, and lots of 'em. Thanks for backing up my lack of finder-skillz.

No problem, now I've finished laughing at that picture I can say thanks ever so much for the review.

I remember playing this game in an arcade in London, just three minutes' walk from where you were that time - and I sort of enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away. I was tempted for the longest time to get the PSOne version, but always resisted - and now it looks like I did the right thing.

Maybe one day there will be HYPER NEO GEO 64 emulation ...

Maybe Im crazy, or just a gay SNK fanboy, but I actually loved this game.

I didn't notice any problems with the control. At the time it felt quite responsive, and everythign I needed to execute came out fluently.

Really regret selling this game. I have the other 3d PSOne SNK game (SamShodown), but Wild Ambition is infinately more playable.

I don't think I ever realised there was a 3D SamSho for the PSOne. GameFAQs says there are actually two - I've never seen them or read anything about them at all, what are they like?

(*cough, review it*)

That's funny, because I like Warrior's Rage better.:supergrin Different strokes, I guess. Just seems more SNK-ee to me.

I know. Just being greedy... I actually have some others before it that I want to do, a little more obscure, so I guess we'll see what happens. I definately don't want to step on toes...:supergrin

Hi

I went for a nap in the evening, and when I woke up around 11.30pm, it just hit me that your name is pronounced after the legendary sword wielded by King Arthur himself - Excalibur.

Thank you.

Shit, look at Sklabah's custom title. Looks like he said the secret word of the day.

11th August 2002, 01:51 PM
"leader"? I got the same thing when I tried a new custom title during my "DGL Niggitz" phase. I've also noticed you can't make thread titles in all caps anymore.

Anti-Otomo measures? :O

EvilNeil

Actually, that's a feature of the software - it won't let you have words like "leader" or "moderator" or "admin" in your custom title if you aren't one.

I replaced the standard asterisks with something more suiting my sophisticated comedy tastes.

Man, I remember my thinking behind the $20 dollars I'll never get back.

"I know it looks bad, but so does SFEX, and SFEX is still fun!"
"Holy Shit! It's Ryo as Mr fucking Karate! And Duck King!"
"Geese beating the crap out of Jeff Bogard! in CG!"
"THIS GAME CANNOT BE AS BAD AS THEY SAY!"

Boy, was I wrong. One thing I will ocunterpoint to mr bah is that the music is actually pretty top notch (both remixed, and originals, it has 2 settings), provided you're not listening to it in game. I can't remember if it's streamed, but the sound test is great, and ripping .xa's makes for tasty mp3s.

On other thing, is that I really liked some of the plays on the speical moves in there, like, Terry does a sweep before he does the rising tackle, making the move almost make sense, and Andy's ninja movements actually look realistic, and not stupid like the KoF counterparts, etc.

I felt that the creators should have gotten help from 3DFX when it was KING of the GFX cards..........so that way FF:WA would have looked better and smoother plus would have taken advantage of the HNG 64 Hardware!
Still its a Great Game and I like it alot!

I just downloaded this from HNK and I think it sucks! These people are so fucking ugly and Mai's tits are very unapple-pealing.

I can rip the movies if you want, there are many of them though.

I somehow found a lot of enjoyment in this game. I havent played it in a long time, but I liked it. Bought the AST (bootleg, of course).

The 3D gfx are pretty horrible...still...I don't know, I guess it's the whole SNK thing. I've wanted to give Warriors Rage a try too, although I'm not big on Samurai Shodown.

Sklabah

I'm flattered to see my review back in the light.

Warriors Rage is fun. I had a recent run of gameplay with that, and I was pretty pleased. Then I bust out Soul Calibur...

Still, WR has a cool story and interesting unlockables. Worth at least a casual look. I'm inspired to do a full review now. Thanks!

ALSO: After writing the review, I went back and played some more about a year later. My impressions have changed, but not by much. However, having unlocked Mr. Karate and Duck King, the two BEST characters in the game, I would have to say that they raise the score by about 8 points. And the number is still meaningless and arbitrary. Feh.
