XD Bitch, I was actively trying to preorder Animal Boxing while bitching profusely about all the delays in it's release! You'll never out-homo me! XD
That said, Animal Boxing was worth the $20 but DON'T SAVE IN SLOT 3 FIRST THING! Not sure if that's what caused it but my character model got corrupted after I saved in Slot 3 first (old habit to prevent data from being overwritten, I'd always save in a slot other than 1, usually 3). Data was still just fine, just my character has a wireframe on their hair and hair types overlap into a clippy mess. Starting anew in Slot 1 caused no problems though.
Personally I liked it. It has weird issues like how music only seems to work at random (it's completely silent usually) and the load times are a bit surprising in their existance, but the boxing it's self is interesting enough.
It's not Punch-Out or Fight Night but rather something kinda unusual and unique. How and where you draw your lines determines a multitude of attributes about your punch. The shorter the line, the faster the punch. The straighter the line, the more accurate the punch. So the goal is to make the shortest, straightest lines possible for your punches and aim them properly, adding an odd layer of finesse to the pummeling. For $20, it's worth a look.
Gammick Entertainment is now on my watch list. I wanna know what these guys pull next considering their impressive grasp of 3D on the DS.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, a second remake of the first game, was recently released. If you're not familiar with the series, it's a turn-based strategy with RPG elements. The basic gameplay itself is easy enough to get into, since it provides a Normal difficulty with a Prologue serving as a tutorial for first-timers. But you'll soon find that this is no cakewalk.
Units are not expendable in the least, because if a unit dies, it's done done and gone for good. You need to be careful with how you handle them, particularly in regards to weaponry. The bonuses granted by following the Weapon Triangle (swords beat axes; axes beat lances; lances beat swords) will make or break you. Adding to that, weapons can only be used a limited amount of times before they break (!), and then you'll have to get them repaired or buy new ones. But all of your shopping will be done at shops/armories on the field, during missions as opposed to between them.
So the game provides a welcome challenge, yet is still manageable (for the moment, anyway). If you're looking for more punishment, you can start a game on one of five Hard difficulties. WFC features include a Battle mode between two players, an online shop with rare items that vary depending on the time of the month, and unit trading.
Obviously, I can recommend this game to anyone that likes the Advance Wars series. But everyone should take a look at it.
Some homebrew I think is worth mentioning here:
OpenTyrian DS (http://vespenegas.com/tyrian.html) - This is basically Tyrian ported to the DS, and that's just fine. Currently, it's a work in progress with some bugs that still need to be fixed, but the latest release plays quite well (choppy framerate aside). Go for it if you like shooters.
NDS_TGM (http://tinyurl.com/ndstgm0815) - A homebrew version of the very hard Tetris: The Grandmaster (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwC544Z37qo), developed by MeRAMAN. This project was shut down by Arika, the original TGM creators, after they found it being sold on pirated DS carts. For all zero of you with interest in Tetris, the link above is the latest and last version still available for download.

Dragon Quest V (U) and Blue Dragon Plus (U) are up for download. DQ5 needs a copyright protection crack that will be released soon (I'm sure), or if you feel like it, you can edit your cheat files to point to the (U) version instead, as the (E) version's crack codes work too. Dunno nuthin about Blue Dragon.

This reminds me of some kid I used to know insisting that his friend was able to ride on Yoshi in SM64. This same friend was also able to finish Zelda: Ocarina of Time in a day, allegedly.
Luckily I never bothered trying to get on Yoshi though cause I knew it was a cold hearted lie.

Chinatown Wars needs a patch:

Just run the bin in the same directory as the rom and copy the new rom marked "patched" to your card. If that patch doesn't work, try this one:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/qyxjon
Note this one doesn't work on Cyclowiz.
The game is very well done. The touch screen is used liberally but doesn't feel forced. You use it to hotwire parked cars, sift through garbage, deal drugs (which is treated like a stock market), play scratchoff games, interact with various cutscenes, and operate your extraordinarily useful PDA. There's probably more seeing as how large the city is.

Pokemon DS: It was like diamond and pearl, or something? Anyway, it's definitely the best pokemon game so far. Cool wi-fi trading and stuff, restrained 3D graphics. It's, uh, still pokemon, though. Basically the exact same game. If you'd like to do the same stuff you did on a gameboy in nineteen-fucking-ninety eight. Pretty good, probably?
Apparently Nintendo thinks being able to pull up a menu with a button that's less cumbersome than their ridiculous START tab is a stunning technological improvement...
(Why does it always seem like when I go to post in a long-lived thread that's gotten along just fine without me, my post always seems to go to the top of a new page?)

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Is now compatible with the latest CycloDS Evo firmware (v1.54) released on March 16. It's a good thing, because this game is very well done. People say it's a throwback to the classic GTAs, but it reminds me more of Payback (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payback_(video_game)) than anything. Rest assured, this is definitely not some quick cash-in with the GTA name. Go play it.

I haven't played the first 3, but i can comment on Fire Emblem:
-Game is good, it's not the best FE but is good.
-Game is more simple than past interactions, which is understandable since it's a remake of the first one.
-The way to get the gaiden chapters is weird (your TOTAL army must not have more than 14 members, so let the useless ones die)
-Less items and some are awesome (teleport wand)
-You can play in normal or hard and if you chose hard it has 5 dificulty levels and it is hell XP
-Characters can change to any other class before a battle.
That's pretty much all i can think of right now about this FE, hope it helps.

I'm not sure why I like to relive the Pok幦on adventure over and over :P
Also on Valkyrie Profile:: if you've played previous games in the series, you'll have a very familiar combat system (each character has a button assigned to them, if they're close to each other they attack in tandem, pressing one button will make a character attack, pressing another will make the other attack, so they can combo their hits and use special abilities), but now it has a tactical RPG element to it (a la Disgaea). You can actually sacrifice your allies with a special ability to appease a god or something. And they don't come back. I'd give it a whirl.
All the games you listed are promising, I haven't played Suikoden too deeply or DQ5 at all, but the DQ series is pretty much instant win.

Also, yes, Platinum USA has been leaked, you can find it in my share on the Hub, or your DS Rom newsgroup of choice.
Keep in mind though, that a few online features may be shotty as the game isn't supposed to be out until the 22nd, namely the Wii registration thingy. So far it has yet to work. Well, if history's taught me nothing else, it's that I always buy one of the two new gen PKMN games... Sure, I intend to buy the other one, but lack of money and laziness usually conspire to keep me from the other colour/metal/jewel.

Because I had to switch ISPs, and the only choice left in town is one that doesn't allow any file sharing at all. They almost cut off my account for running torrents on it now and then. DC++ would get my account closed for sure.
I currently have a notebook machine set up across town on my parents' unlimited connection, but I have to use RealVNC to log in and control it, and the hard drive isn't really big enough for torrent and DC++ usage. If I can get a big enough external drive to set up a share again, I might do it, otherwise I have to wait until my contract with my current ISP runs out, which should be June or July.

oh also re: suikoden tierkries
no connections to any other suikoden game besides having 108 characters and a castle. a lot of the (very small) things that differentiated characters in the older games, like unique weapons, attacks, etc, is gone. only 4 characters in your party at a time. horrible horrible voice acting.
other than that, decent enough story so far despite the lack of connection to whats been built up over the previous games. no quick save option is kind of a killer on the DS though. makes it hard to play on the train to tokyo in the morning.

Damn you. I was going to finish it before i made the final judgment. But yeah Six slots for four characters max is a little stupid. And there's no real differentiation between characters when you can simply equip everyone with the most powerful sword. Also all epic battles are represented as a regular fight with three soldiers. Boo. I do like the co-op attacks though. I'd try to pick a few highlights but they're all good really. Jale and his mom stand out, so do the Beastmen/women.
Storywise I don't like the main character. He consistently maintains his naivete despite having been responsible for heavy casualty battles and doesn't seem to be all that interested in the ladies (he's a hair away for saying "Ew, girls have cooties!"). However the underlying political intrigue keeps me interested. It always seems to change who the enemy really is.

Just for those too lazy to look for said screens: It means it kicks it ol' skool, where you basically navigate a maze-like dungeon of multiple floors.
It's kinda like Etrian Oddesy but without the manual mapping and a more DnDish flair.

I finally played through the Guadia Quest section of Retro Games Challenge to get Haggleman 3. It's worth noting both of these games could have been stand alone hits in the 8-bit era. Obviously they're shorter than average, but they're really well made.

What? No. It's still drag and drop. If a game requires fidgeting on the R4 it usually needs it across all cards. That Sonic RPG comes to mind as well as a couple of Square re-releases. I think currently the Cyclo has a one-up on the others in terms of compatibility with those particular roms.

Most cards now offer auto copy protection cracking, I think. But I know Cyclo's is pretty aggressive. Also it can connect to a Wii, just in case, y'know?
EDIT: Oh I know what he means. The R4 has a glitch in it's Cheat code listing system that prevents it from reading over "X" amount of titles, meaning: The more titles you have in the cheat list, the more get cut off. So yes, you will need to manually trim the superfluous titles off the R4's cheatlist if you Download one. That, however, is easily accomplished via a program titled "R4CCe (http://yasu.rank.nu/yasu/count.cgi?n=r4cce&l=http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA013928/bin/r4cce086.zip)". Just run the program, find your cheat list file, open it up, and trim the fat off your sweet cheat meat.

For a budget release it's impressive. VERY nice graphics. Starts out slow though but picks up. Boss battles are the best part. Not the greatest but definately not terrible.
Know what deserves mention though? Magician's Quest! Basically it's Animal Crossing but a million times better. It blatantly rips it off, even scrolling the same way as Wild World, but it has SO much more to do. I personally found Animal Crossing boring but Magician's Quest gets it right. You go to magic school and learn spells and can ressurect dark lords and fight pirates and shit while solving mysteries on top of the usual Animal Crossing BS. The interactivity between students is far greater than what's seen in Animal Crossing, able to actually go fishing and stuff with them, and you can even date them! Don't worry, there's some non-animals in there like a demon girl, a kyonshi, and a Russian nesting doll. Sadly neither of the bunnies have come to my town yet and the deer is a bigger bitch than expected but I am warming up to the cute boar girl.
Also: You can crossdress. I am amused.

Knights in the Nightmare came out recently (last week). I tried out a downloaded Japanese copy a while ago and absolutely could not figure out how to play it, you need the translated instructions to play. I finally got the US release and now that I understand how to play it is quite fun. The combat system is innovative and refreshing in it's half rpg half shmup style of play and the visual style is stunning. I highly recommend it.
My only exposure to Dept. Heaven was Yggdra(?) Union which I played briefly and I'll have to say I'm much more interested in this newest title.

I started on that last night myself. I've got respect for what Sting has been doing with their Dept. Heaven stuff, but it's kind of been from a distance, since, well...as interesting as Riviera and Yggdra Union are visually and in terms of sheer originality, I wasn't able to get into either of them. Riviera I was outright repelled by, although I put a little more time into Yggdra Union...nothing, still.
Finally, though, they've made one I'm actually interested in getting into the nitty gritty of. It should be interesting to see how it holds up.
(And just to note: Riviera is Dept. Heaven Episode I, Yggdra Union is II, and there is no III yet - they've been saying it's planned to be a PC MMORPG, but we'll see how that goes)

Well on their download site. Most of the DL Sites take the ROMs down shortly after they are posted with the only one left (share-online.biz) being really malware-tastic.
Normally I'd just drop the shields, download, and re-scan but "Antivirus Systems Pro" is a bitch and a half and renders your machine instantly near unuseable with it's constant pestering and it took me a good hour or so to kill it.

I should note there are currently two dumps out right now - one from Bahamut and one from Xenophobia. The former is listed as proper and the latter nuked. However, from what I could gather, while Bahamut's works with no issues for a lot of people, the netplay sometimes doesn't work for certain cards (although I wasn't able to find out which ones, exactly :s). Xenophobia released a patch (http://filetrip.net/f8660-Phantasy-Star-O-Crack-Fix-1-0.html) that fixes their dump and also bypasses the problem some cards were having with it. That's what I went with, and it's working great.

The DS keeps trucking. No updates here does not mean there weren't lots of good games coming out!
US/English Titles
Ace Attourney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth YESSSS FINALLY. I see they went with a shittier title so that it would end up next to the other ones in the series. Still. I love me some Edgey-poo.
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks It's Zelda. Fanboys, go go go.
Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands Seems like this one is aimed at a younger audience, judging by the more simplified art. Doesn't appeal to me, but then again I don't even play games anymore. ;_;
Fighting Fantasy Looks like a first person action-dungeon-crawler? Looks kinda unremarkable, though.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes Looks really good! More puzzle than strategy game (?), lots of people are saying it's good.
Space Invaders Extreme 2 The first one I put on my list of top DS games. If you can't be bothered with Japanese titles, now it's out in English! Not that there's that much text, but yeah.
Ragnarok DS 'Portable adaptation' sets off alarms for me, but go ahead and try it out if you want to.
Glory of Heracles Title made me want to barf, but screenshots make it look like it might actually be a good (J?)RPG.
Sands of Destruction Another good-looking RPG.
Jam Sessions 2 Looks like they just took the first one and added a bunch of popular songs to it? If you never checked out the first one, though, get to it.
Band Hero DS Fucking gross. Why would you do that. You're dead to me. Haha, you were already dead to me.
Style Savvy Bear with me here. BEST DRESSUP GAME ON THE DS. Probably not something people here care about, but there you go.
Japanese Titles
Luminous Arc 3: Eyes I never got through either of the first two, but they looked pretty. If you still have enough time in your life to play JRPGs, then gogogogogo. Out before LumArc2 for Europe. :P
Kyokugen Dasshutsu (Extreme Exit?) Very interesting idea for a puzzle game. Looks quite complex and clever. Worth looking up for a detailed explanation.
Yggdra Union This looks really good to me, and I don't even know why.
Summon Night X Did I post about this before? There are so many of these. Another well-regarded (in Japan, anyway) JRPG series. Fairly popular with the girls, too, and somehow that makes me like it more. Probably thanks to more attention to the character design, story, and relationships (romance), and relatively (!) little (?) overt sexploitation of females. But, y'know. They're still pretty cute.
Rockman.EXE Another one. Windows naming conventions are like sand in my eyes. Hey, I've got an idea for your next fucking rockman game, why not give all the robot monsters 8-character names in all-caps. Time to fight NAPALMMA.RBM! Fucking awesome, guys. Nothing says 'the future' like lousy command-line bullshit.
Wizardry Woo dungeon crawlers! How I learned to stop kidding myself, and learn to love the grind.
Professor Layton & Majin no Fue It takes them longer to translate these than to make new ones in Japan. Like, literally.
Cross Treasures People like it?

It's not radically different, but it is still super super great.
I didn't play it as much as the first one, but only because the d-pad on my DS has been completely destroyed (by the first one).
Makes me wanna buy an Arkanoid controller for my DS. Too bad they can't be used with the DSi (and weren't sold in the US, so it's import-only, I think).

I do fine without said controller.

Well, so do I, for the most part, since I don't have one.
Still - did you do fine against the last boss on extreme mode? It's tough (for me) to maneuver single pixels with the d-pad. And judging from videos online, it appears that the wheel controller has a decidedly faster top speed, which seems like it would be advantageous in many situations. There are many times when I miss a powerup or UFO, simply because I can't get over to the other side of the screen fast enough. At other times, it seems clear that being able to whip my player over to the other side of the screen to a safe spot would be much easier than trying to carefully dodge bullets in the corner I'm in.
Just sayin'

Ace Attourney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth YESSSS FINALLY. I see they went with a shittier title so that it would end up next to the other ones in the series. Still. I love me some Edgey-poo.
This is great. I love how the first case has more frames of animation than all the previous games combined.

Apparently Endless Frontier Exceed got dumped. It needs some kinda patch. More info at SRW Hotnews. (https://superrobotwar.wordpress.com/)

I had to use the xdelta patch because it kept returning to the title screen at some point

Started playing Miles Edgeworth - it's pretty good! Not too many surprises if you've played Phoenix Wright games before, it basically has a similar formula. But the investigations and court scenes are basically both wrapped into one.
Just finished the first chapter, liking it so far, I'll post again when I get further. The only question for me now is - will it be epic? The Ace Attorney games really ramped up to thrilling conclusions. The first one for Edgeworth was cool, but not EPIC. But it was just the first one! Anyway.

I wouldn't say it's as epic as the Phoenix Wright games, but it certanly has some good twists and deals with cases in a much larger scale.

I take it one of you is going to say something when SMT Strange Journey hits the internet? I'll be too busy with FF13 to keep up to date on that sorta stuff.
Endless Frontier Exceed is awesome. I should probably stop playing, as I'm pretty sure it's going to get brought over here, but I...kinda can't stop. Just wish my computer sucked a little less (it's SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS OLD). I can't even use Suzuka because she drops the emulator to single-digit FPS when she attacks.

Okay, well, that's fine.
Right from the start, it's clear that the game has more to offer visually. More 3D elements and more animation. The characters and writing are just as good as the Phoenix Wright games, in my opinion (so far, at least).
The music doesn't seem quite as awesome, yet, to me... It borrows a lot of themes from Phoenix, and reuses some tunes outright, but doesn't seem to be giving much back. They've traded in the chippy square-waves and saw-waves from the GBA series for some SNES-era MIDI - and in my mind, it's not really a step forward. But that's just me.
Anyway, it's a great game. I'm gonna go play it some more.
Re: SMT Strange Journey and Frontier Whatever
Yes, I guess I'll say something when they come out. I feel obligated to?
Honestly, the trailer for SMT:SJ did not excite me very much, simply because it seems like it takes a lot from Etrian Odyssey without offering much new (not in the trailer, anyway). Meanwhile EO3 is also coming out, and it looks like it'll be a worthwhile sequel. I dunno, it's too early to judge, of course. I guess SMT:SJ will probably give you less party customization, and more story elements. Maybe it'll be way awesome. I kinda like the art in EO more, too, though...

Well, I'm excited for SJ. Then again, I get excited for anything with Megami Tensei somewhere in the title (yes I even signed up for that shitty MMO from a few years ago).
And I'm playing EXCEED right now also, it owns pretty hard. It's basically everything I expected from a sequel to the original.

It just fell off?
The top screen of my DSLite started going blank but I fixed it by opening it up with a tri-wing.

the right button was stiff so i pressed it hard and the plastic around it snapped bits flying out. i still managed to use it after that with the aid off super glue but a lil while later the whole top half slid off tearing the cable inside

Ah, if that ribbon cable is torn you are fucked. You COULD replace it but it's complicated if you've never soldered.

People are seriously considering the XL? THat thing is bigger than the original DS.

It's because it's new.
I once tried a new soft drink that I knew I would hate just because it had that shiny yellow "NEW!" label on it. It was A&W Ice cream float soda. Gross right? Ice cream floats are gross UNLESS you consume them quickly. Making an ice cream float then bottling it? Someone clearly doesn't understand the point of an ice cream float.
And yeah, it was even more disgusting than I imagined. I couldn't even finish that crap and I ALWAYS finish disgusting food. I mean, I fucking paid for it I BETTER eat it, right? No, that shit was gross. It was on the market for a month and they took it off.
And that's the thing. I'm VERY self aware. I knew I would hate it but it said NEW on the bottle. I couldn't help myself. It's like seagulls and tinfoil.

Man, the whole DSi thing has me in knots. I love being able to just slap in my old Castlevania games, (GBA) and go to town. Too bad my DSlite is on it's last legs as well. Someone convince me to get an XL, I've already lost my courage for that particular endeavor.

Unless you want to play Shantae, just get another Lite.
I wonder if the build quality of the DSi is better than the lite in the long run. Because I'm currently on my 3rd Lite. I really expected better of Nintendo in this respect.
And I'm not some sort of beast with Ultima-like hands, they broke through normal usage.
Granted, I did take them everywhere (used at home, at school, in the car, on the train...)

How would one go about saving/emulating old gb/gba games on one anyway?
NightBlade

How'd you manage to go thru 3 DS Lites? The thing is a tank, it looks flimsy as fuck but it's really resilient =/
My EZFlash V+ can emulate GB/GBC games with no issues, but GBA is a whole another story. the GBA Slot is pretty much mandatory, I can copy a GBA game to the RAM Expansion that fits in said slot to play.
But now that the DSi is out, I have no idea what the compatibility is now. Personally, I'd hold out till next generation and go with a cheap DSLite.
Unless of course there's a huge Metroid/Zelda/Castlevania/Earthbound title exclusive for the DSiWare.

1st DS Lite - a black one that I bought brand new on the first day that the Lite came out in black in the US. So I had it from late 06 until late 08 when it broke.
PIC (http://onemoregame.net/media/ds.jpg) (the bottom half of the shell broke from behind the hinge/power light area)
This happened when I just closed it normally when I had to leave the train one day. The same way I had been closing the DS since I got it. I think I dropped this DS once, ever.
2nd DS Lite - a white one that I bought used from a friend. Had it from Jan 09 until Dec 09.
Worked fine for a year of general usage until I noticed that the area on the bottom half of the shell behind the hinge (yes the same area again) was beginning to weaken. I fixed it with glue but it just became brittle and then broke after a while.
Now at this point I had to wonder if it was user error or what, since I held them both the same way: thumbs on d-pad/buttons, index fingers on triggers or just pinch it with my left hand if I'm using the stylus, but I don't think that is out of the ordinary, and I was never throwing them around or banging on them.
3rd DS Lite - a pink one I've had since Dec 09, its working okay. When I got it was dirty as hell and was plastered with unicorn stickers, but I took it apart and cleaned it and its ok now.
Hey it was only $20, I couldn't pass it up.

XD People should be considering the DSi XL because at least it's not the damn DSi.
Yeah, the DSi is an abysmal piece of shit and should never be considered. Horrible texture, sub-par D-Pad, limited volume control, no GBA slot, region locking (on DSi enhanced games), ATROCIOUS shoulder buttons that are hard to keep held down. But worst of all? 4 hour battery life. That's inexcuseable. I actively consider the DSi to be Nintendo's second worst system of all time, knocking the Virtual Boy into 3rd. The DSi is so bad it makes me hate the PSP less.
While the XL still has bad battery life, 5 hours is a good bit more acceptable. Especially when paired with GIGANTO SCREEN. However I *REALLY* wanna hold one first to be sure the texture isn't offensive and the shoulder buttons can be pressed without a massive hand cramp (been trying to play Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing on my DSi and it HURTS). Shame I won't be able to transfer the shit I downloaded onto my DSi over to the XL though. Ah well, I didn't download much.
