Review: Deadly Arts |
Someone had to do it. I was the chosen one. I was the one willing to waste $5.00 renting this game. I was the one who was valiant enough to endure pain. And this is a pain that will forever leave a scar in my mind. I lived through Deadly Arts… now the question becomes… can/should you?
At first I was excited about this title and its create a character option. The possibilities for creating a character seemed endless. Think about it. You get to play around with a nifty little menu and add features to a character such as its facial characteristics, its body mass, etc… That was at first. Playing the game proved to be another mission altogether. Now mind you, the create your character feature could very possibly be the ONLY saving grace for this game — if any.
What really brings this game down to Rise of the Robots status is its poorly coordinated play control, graphics, sounds, character design, moves, combos, balance… should I go on? storyline, options and so on and so on.
In terms of graphics, this game looks like the absolute worst Gumby cartoon you can possibly think of. Not only at the backgrounds choppy, they are uninspired. Character design is even worse. You have an unmistakable Chun-Li rip-off (someone call the Capcom lawyers); Kyoya a purple skin, blonde, cheap, crappy, goofy looking… thing; along with Pongo (some bald guy); and a short list that is not even worth mentioning. There are also some minor polygon clipping which are a pain in the ass. Just sit down and watch the game, you will be bored out of your mind, guaranteed.
The game also has problems in the balance department. There seems to be a huge gap of advantage between most of the characters. Pongo for example, excerpts and incredible amount of damage. Azami on the other hand, is as weak as they come – even a mutated Twinkie with no teeth and a rotten penis could defeat her. The same drawback applies to the play control. Good luck moving and attacking.
I simply can’t write more about this game. Hell, I don’t even know how I was capable of playing this game for 5 days. The things people would do for money. Wait a min… I don’t get paid. Hmmm could I be a masochist? When playing this game bring on the chains and whips. You are sure to get more pleasure out of the latter.
